“I wanted to do something different that truly connected me with people. I like to entertain, I like making people smile, and I like to have fun. I decided to turn my personal pontoon boat into a tiki boat, and with my husband’s help, we made it happen.”

Cruising with Purpose: How The Kinky Tiki is Championing Boynton Beach’s Local Business Community

For small business owners like Corina Clary, pivoting from a decades-long career in retail management to launching a unique private charter on the South Florida waterways wasn't just a career change—it was an investment in the local community. As the founder of The Kinky Tiki out of Boynton Beach, Clary represents the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit driving Palm Beach County’s economy forward, proving that personalized, community-focused businesses are the heartbeat of the region.

We caught up with Clary aboard the vessel for the November issue of SOFLO EDGE™ to talk about grassroots entrepreneurship, the power of local small business synergy, and why supporting independent operators keeps Boynton Beach thriving.

Nicole Willard (Editor-in-Chief @ SOFLO EDGE™): Corina, transitioning from half a life in retail management to launching your own charter business is a massive leap. What inspired you to bet on yourself and build this local brand?

Corina Clary (Owner/ operator @ The Kinky Tiki): I dedicated a lot of my life to retail management, but I wanted to do something different that truly connected me with people. I like to entertain, I like making people smile, and I like to have fun. I decided to turn my personal pontoon boat into a tiki boat, and with my husband’s help, we made it happen. Word is getting out that we offer a different kind of charter experience here in Palm Beach County, and building that from the ground up has been incredible.

Nicole: And that local connection goes beyond just the boat, right? You heavily integrate other neighborhood staples into your charters.

Corina: Absolutely. Community collaboration is everything. When we take clients out, we love partnering with local hotspots. We can dock right up to Two George’s, Old Key Lime House, or head over to Deck 84. The guests get off, grab lunch, and support local establishments. It’s about creating an entire ecosystem where small businesses lift each other up.

Nicole: That kind of hyper-local networking really strengthens the Boynton Beach economy. For readers looking to support independent operators this season, what does a typical charter look like?

Corina: It runs as a bareboat charter, where we connect guests with independent local captains. We hold up to 12 guests, which makes it perfect for everything from bachelorette parties to family anniversaries. We provide custom touches—like heat-pressed koozies featuring clients' pets—and supply the essentials, but the real magic is the freedom. Whether it’s hitting the sandbar at Peanut Island, stopping at a local waterfront restaurant, or posting up to watch the local holiday boat parades without the hassle of public ramps, it’s all about giving people a tailored experience while championing what makes our local waterways so special.
